Non-invasive Optical Technical Identification of Red Pigments on Chinese Paper Notes

Red pigments with bright colors were widely used in ancient Chinese painted pottery, books, antiques, calligraphy, and paintings. Herein, red of traditional paper notes investigated by non-invasive optical technology order to enrich the historical knowledge base. The results laser Raman spectroscopy tests on five clearly identified inorganic mineral including ocher cinnabar. Infrared measurements indicated that an artificial synthetic magenta was employed as organic pigment. Inorganic applied together same samples 2 5 which can be speculated serve anti-counterfeiting function. In addition, SEM-EDS analysis sample showed pigment composed lead oxides ZnS added color modulator. Combined abovementioned techniques, printed provide a feasible method authenticate conserve notes.
